Why Is Taking a Break From Social Media Important?

If you follow me on social media, you'll see that I am constantly talking about social media mental health. And the reason why is because when we are not mentally healthy, we tend to act inappropriately. Social media, mental health, and mental health as a whole should be all of our top priorities all of the time.

We need a break from inauthenticity.

As we move through 2022, we're seeing all of this talk about authenticity, people being real online. We're getting back to this authentic side of life where people don't want to be lied to. They just want to know what you're doing in your life daily. It's a lot like reality TV. There are two sides to this story because some people will say their brand is an extension of themselves. And it's almost like an alter ego, so they have to put on a mask.

We need a break to avoid narcissism.

I found this woman that Lewis Howes is interviewing. She has a holistic approach to what narcissism looks like in social media and reality TV. She talks about when social media started that is where people will post their children to make their life look perfect. It all comes down to having this perfect lifestyle.

We need a break to find real serenity and freedom

We are continually taken out of the current moment by social media. Consider when you're with a teenager and their eyes are glued to the screen. At times, when you talk to them, they don’t even lift their eyes from the phone. It’s because they're being transported somewhere else, to the future, to this fantasy life, which may provide an escape at the time. But how does it make them feel in the long run?

I can tell you from personal experience that it was not fantastic until I began to follow the RIGHT people. Now I only follow a certain sort of person, a pleasant, hardworking individual who shares both the good and the terrible. I also keep track of how much time I spend on this app. I don't spend time; instead, I come here to speak with clients and then go.

I try to avoid being constantly linked to my phone. When I'm at work, I need my phone; why can't I leave it at home when I'm not? Who requires my services? Before cell phones, you couldn't contact people in an emergency, and there was certain tranquility to that. You will find serenity and freedom if you can find a happy medium.

Bottom line:

You can DEFINITELY manage your time and business in social media with a healthy mindset and the right influence. How are you striking a balance between your business and social media? If you want to learn more about social media management and self-development, tune in to this full episode.
