Building a Thriving Business with Angie Colee

There are questions that are thought-provoking enough and definitely worth contemplating for your business:

  • What were your major challenges as you faced the pandemic?

  • How did these challenges affect your business?

  • What did you do to get by?

If these are also the questions you’ve been exploring yourself, you’ve come to the right spot. Here are some of the life-giving answers that my guest shared with me that I know would lift you to a level higher, too. Read on!

1. On staying motivated even if it’s not such a great day in her personal life

Being in maintenance mode was the main factor. This means identifying the bare minimum to keep the wheels rolling. She’s not ready to do her tasks yet but there’s wiggle room to still do something related to her deadline. For instance, she would read marketing or copyreading-related write ups. Eventually, she learned to be upfront with her clients who turned up very supportive with what she’s going through and gave her enough leeway to get up and get going.

2. On “stumbling” upon the freelancing business of copyreading and marketing

She hit a rough spot at her 9-5 and got laid off. While wallowing in self-pity and the anxiety of having no money coming in, she remembered a book entitled “The Well-fed Writer”, which, after purchasing with her remaining savings, turned out to be the turning point of her creative business. She realized that copyreading and marketing are things that she’s already trained to do, and she could do it. So she did it! It was all a matter of actually putting your hands into it.

3. On her experience being with people who are off-putting her freelancing journey

She focused on clear communication whenever she is about to meet people, especially for a significant relationship. She always makes it clear at the beginning as to what she’s doing. So during the lean months, they would be more supportive with what she’s doing and it helps to get going. They help her figure out what she needs to do because they have communicated the right expectations from the beginning.

4. On her recommendations of starting a business while also doing their other interests

Knowing yourself is going to play into this. If you’re someone who could figure out something on the get-go, then you can definitely just pack your bag and start that trip. You’ll find out what you’re supposed to do while on the road. But if you’re the planning type of person, you should really plan before hitting the road. Part of this plan is to have access to wifi internet connection and backup income for when the days are lean.

Key takeaway:

Your mindset and headspace affect your business heavily. You should surround yourself with people who could push you forward and do their best to understand what it is you’re doing. With the right mindset, you’ll discover many opportunities in line with your niche that is way beyond your imagination.

There is still definitely so much to bring with you in this fulfilling conversation with my guest Angie Colee, so you’d do well to tune in to this podcast.
