The Evolution of Communication

Do you still track your screen time?

During these past years and with the additional impact of the pandemic, the use of social media has evolved rapidly. People now communicate faster and can receive information from anyone anytime. We are on screen most of the time.

It is a good thing, but we can’t hide the fact that it can also be harmful. Below are the impacts of communication in today’s society, and why we all should be aware of it.

Too much information exhausts our brain.

I find it interesting how much communication has changed. And what happens when communication evolves.

We saw this happen when cell phones first came out, and it took people time to adjust. Right now, it’s happening so fast. In today's day and age, the adjustment period is so fast. And the reason why it's also the fastest is because of the internet.

People evolve with communication, and those types of shifts that we think might not be a big deal when they're happening, have such a trickle-down effect on society.

Because words are energy.

And words are how we communicate so that we can make things happen. If we don't have words, then people would never even be able to communicate to develop something like the internet. So the power of the word and the amount of content that we're consuming is so exhausting daily.

It’s not because the self-care things started to come out in 2020, there's a reason why people are pushing that because they knew that the amount of content that people would start to consume was going to drive them insane.

Too much content is harmful without regulation.

There are good things about this fast evolution of communication. As business owners, we can use it to know what our clients want or prefer. But with too much content online, we might get side-tracked and pick up the negative in them.

We have no clue how this level of communication on Instagram, Tiktok, and other social media platforms is going to impact the generations to come.

Think about this, even the elders still had to adapt to having a cell phone versus using a landline. It's miraculous how fast the young generation copes with a short amount of time. We have to be aware of that traction. And how fast it's come on for all of us because we haven't had time to adjust.

In return, without that adjustment, without being on top of monitoring yourself, it will have a trickle-down effect.

Sometimes I find myself scrolling on the couch for an hour after work. And I'm like, “What am I doing? I just wasted an hour and then I wonder why every night feels like it goes by in like six minutes.” Well, that social media is sucking my energy. It's taking everything out of me when I would rather be like drawing or doing a puzzle or something.

Bottomline

Because of the internet, the evolution of communication would be much faster in the future. It would be more advanced and vast.

However, to be honest, I don't think that constant social communication is helpful for anyone. It absorbs energy, mindless energy, it's thoughtless, it's brainwashing if we don't watch what we consume. This is due to the rapid evolution of communication on these platforms! We as humans haven't had time to acclimate.

We have to stay aware and I think what's going to be the biggest trickle-down effect of this growth. Because the mental health impact that it will have on us as a society will be long-term.
