Stop The Judgement— If No One Else Knows What They Want, We're All On The Same Page Anyways!

When I was in college, I had been told by numerous teachers and mentors that I should have a plan by the time I graduate. I’m always reminded that I should have a clear idea of what I want to do with my life. The entire structure of society is designed to place us in these roles. But the truth is— no one knows what's going to happen.

In this blog, I'd like to share a personal experience that helped shape me into the person I am today. I also want to talk to you about my thought process, how society influenced our story, and how society's judgments affected us.

What I Witnessed At A Young Age

Throughout my childhood, I saw my father hate his job as time went by. When he first started, he really enjoyed it. However, there came a point in his career when he had to make a lot of really difficult decisions and my father grew to despise it and it gradually began to peel away at him.

When you encounter someone who goes to work every day and it no longer fulfills them, no longer gives them purpose, it makes you realize what you want out of life.

We can all base that on our own experiences and what we've seen. It's one of the reasons I wasn't willing to stay with a job that I knew wouldn't give me the purpose or light me up.

So, I hope this story inspires you to take a look at your daily life and ask yourself, "Are you enjoying what you're doing?"

I Had No Self-Worth

If you've known me in the past, you'll know that I rarely do anything unless I know there's a good chance it'll work out.

When you grow up in a household where your parents are constantly dissatisfied with their jobs, you might think it's nearly impossible to find a line of work that will lift you up, that will give you a life that will make you happy, right?

I was terrified of venturing out into the real world because I knew the fun half of my life was over. And what I thought was the future was nothing but misery. That's exactly what I expected— that's what I saw. I lacked confidence and I wasn’t sure if I'm worth it. But everyone else at my previous job saw that I had something in me that could handle this. They took a chance on me and gave me an opportunity that I never thought I'd have. I'm so grateful for that position and because of it that I'm able to be here with you today.

Nobody Has The Most Idea Of What They Want To Do With Their Lives

It's a shame because we live in a very judgmental society in which everyone has an opinion. Everyone has a judgment about someone else or themselves. After some time, those judgments are passed down from generation to generation— resulting in social constructs such as this is a bad thing, this is a good thing, and this is the path you should take.

Someone may say something that causes you to question or reevaluate what you're doing or how you're living your life. As a result of these outside conversations, we become judgmental of ourselves. Long story short, we are all human beings and everybody has an opinion. This fact does not mean you have to take that opinion or let that go in and digest to become a belief of yours.

That is why I want to encourage you all to ignore the noise, to stop allowing yourself to be controlled and influenced by society's judgment because what really matters right now is your mental health. Whatever you're building, whether it's a career, a lifestyle, or something else, all that matters in this is you and your joy and happiness today.
