Identify Trends Through Music
Music has changed many things for all of us, and I believe it’s one of the most powerful means of communication. Music is definitely a great way to connect with others, too.
I love music—I listen to it a lot in the car and while I'm writing content; it's a great way for me to unwind. During the pandemic, I found listening to music as a way to let loose of stress, as well.
This is real life; sometimes, I listen to a song while putting on makeup to lift my spirits and dance around a little, and let go of judgment. I find I’m drawn to listening to some music that will either validate my emotions or help me get through trying times.
Music can show you trends
So, how do you identify trends in music and begin to see who people are as a whole within music?
You can find out by searching for today's top songs. It's trending because everyone feels an emotional pull to the song which can lead to deeper connections. People want songs that are gonna make them feel understood, make their emotions feel justified, and help them work through some of those difficult times.
Music is a great way to communicate with people and start to understand why their emotions are the way they are. That's the beauty of music — it allows you to understand emotions as a whole, society as a whole, and get a sense of what's going on in the world.
Everyone has a different style, genre, or type of music that they enjoy. Therefore if you like a particular genre of music, you can often bond with your ideal client over that music. Connecting with a client over music taste can lead to a deep understanding from a business perspective too.
Don't believe in viral campaigns?
People want to know why understanding music trends are important for your business, especially if you're trying to go viral. But that's not something I want to promote to my clients unless it's a goal of theirs, in which case we can discuss a productive way to accomplish it. We don't believe in viral campaigns because they can result in large numbers of followers who aren't your ideal client unless you do it in a very specific, correct way.
Let's say you gained 1000 followers overnight. How many of those followers are your ideal client? It’s better to attract 10 ideal clients who will be loyal long-term customers to your brand that you have a strong connection with.
Retention is so important for you and your business that's why understanding music is going to help you retain certain types of followers. Based on music trends, you will be able to understand the emotions that your client feels.
Shift your mindset around music
Begin by changing your mindset about the music you listen to and learning how to incorporate it into your business and content. It will not only benefit you, but it will also assist you in better understanding your clients.
The more we can help our clients grow, the more we grow in return, which ends up paying off so much more in the long run, which is really about the end in mind.
