Camille Walker's Mommy Style
Have you experienced losing a job in a recession? If that happens, how do you get past the transition?
Ever wonder how the shift happens?
If you’re a mom longing for more balance, or just someone stuck in a job you don’t love, then this blog is for you.
In one of my podcast episodes, my guest, Camille Walker, and I talked about her experience in career transition during the 2008 crash. Camille is a mom of four who is multi-passionate. She loves having flexibility and being able to spend time with her family.
How did she make that shift and find a career that fits her lifestyle? Scroll down below and find out what Camille Walker’s “Mommy Style” is, and develop the work-life balance you need.
What’s in “The Unknown”
“...I was doing mortgages. And for those of you who weren’t around in 2008, that was when we had the big market crash and all of the mortgage businesses were falling under, and that's when I lost my job.”
Camille experienced recession while she was a mom of two children. Her transition started with wanting to create and reach people outside her home. Losing her job and her desire to teach and learn from others online prompt her to start blogging.
At that time, blogging was not considered something that gives a stable income. Camille pursued it and that first step landed her into a six-figure income business. She ventured into the unknown and chose the career that gives her happiness.
What’s Your Zone of Genius
“... what’s holding me back was not only a sense of need for perfection but also a sense that I have to be good at doing all the parts, and so what fuels my ability to grow was when I brought on team members as virtual assistants.”
Realizing the need for help fueled Camille’s desire to expand her business more by teaching moms to build a business in her “60 days to VA” online course. Knowing what’s holding her back made Camille optimize what she’s good at and made something that benefits both her and her clients.
Each of us has zones of genius that we're good at. So, enhance the skill you’re good at and recognize what you’re not good at. Someone out there loves doing something you don’t love doing, and that person could become a team player for you and help expand your business in a way you’ve never imagined.
What Do You Show Up For
“...as far as like working with sponsors, if that's the question you're asking about, one of the number one things that I've learned throughout time, is that sponsors want to work with someone who represents the ideals and values of their brand. ”
Camille believes that what you show up for - no matter what your business is - is essential to give you the boost and transition you need.
If you’re doing your business on social media as an example, you have to be willing to adapt and change to the trend, and at the same time be consistent in what you show up for. There are a lot of social media platforms you can use out there. It helps to focus on just one first, before venturing out into other social media platforms.
The number one thing that Camille learned throughout time, is that people want to work with someone who represents the ideals and values of their brand. So if you have a wish list of sponsors or brands that you want to work with, pay attention to who they are, the values they represent, who they're engaging with, or even specific hashtags that they've created themselves.
That can be something that helps you to not only identify their core values but also your business direction.
Be authentic and discover what you want to show up for.
People want authenticity. That's how much the market is shifted over these past few months. Most people want to see their product involved in their everyday lifestyle and follow those who seamlessly fit their interests. Authenticity is vital, but it is still okay to mute or filter bad energy. Remember that what you show up for on social media or any platform you use has a significant effect on your business.
Bottomline
You can discover these things you need to shift not just on your own, but also with the help of other people. So, if you're feeling that sense of burnout, get other people who can help you fuel your momentum! Let the people around you help fuel your excitement as to why you wanted to change your path.
Discover your purpose and it will lead you to know what to do and how you should show up.
All of us have our peaks and valleys in life, that’s why we all need each other's help to fulfill our purpose here in this world. The journey to the work-life balance you need lies in choosing your happiness, finding out your purpose, and authentically sharing it with others!
